Delaware River Turnpike Bridge - Emergency Repair

Last winter, the painting contractor for the Delaware River Turnpike Bridge discovered a crack in a main girder on the underside of the bridge and closed all lanes of the bridge traffic. Despite the complexity of task, the bridge would be repaired and reopened within just over a month.

Join us on November 15, 2017 to discover how he bridge was repaired in record time. Listen to the presenters who participated in the repair to understand how they tackled the technical and agency hurdles to mitigate a regional tranportaion nightmare.

Speakers:

Francis X Carroll has been a Resident Engineer with STV Inc. Since September 2015. Prior to that he had spent time in civil site desin as well as over 5 years with a general contractor working in bridge highway construction. Mr. Carroll is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New Jersey and holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Delaware.

Hilary E. Brugger is an Office Engineer with STV Inc. She is responsible for filed office management of document control and review. Ms. Brugger is an E.I.T., holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University, and is currently pursuing a M.S. in Engineering Mangement from Drexel University.

The annual Construction Management Project Achievement Awards program recognizes outstanding achievement in the practice of construction management. The awards program is designed to recognize and promote professionalism and excellence in the management of the construction process. Awards will be given to CM practitioners for projects and programs that reflect this mission.  We will also announce the winners of our CMAA Scholarships at the event.

Amtrak NEC Infrastructure and Investment Development

As Amtrak’s Director Business Development-Major Project Partnerships, Marilyn is responsible for the coordination and program management of major rail infrastructure projects along Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor that involve state and commuter partners and Amtrak. In this role, she is Amtrak’s lead negotiator in all stages of the project including project planning, scope development, execution of contracts and coordination of Amtrak force account (manpower) support. She has held this role since 2003 and in addition to working on the successful PA Keystone Corridor Improvement Program (KCIP), she is currently responsible for major projects in Pennsylvania, New York and Maryland that total over $700 million. These include the Moynihan Station Phase I project in New York City, replacement of the aged Baltimore tunnel and Susquehanna River Bridge in Maryland, the upstate New York City, replacement of the aged Baltimore tunnel and Susquehanna River Bridge in Maryland, the upstate New York High Speed Rail Program which includes track, Signal and station improvements from Albany to Rochester NY, replacement of state interlocking in Harrisburg PA and SEPTA’s Levittown, Exton and Villanova stations currently in construction. Prior to her current role she was a senior contracting agent in Amtrak’s procurement department and before joining Amtrak in 1999 she worked in the nuclear power and manufacturing industries holding professional positions in production planning, procurement and project management.

Marilyn is a graduate of Duke University and she and her husband have 3 adult children. She contributes her success to maintaining a positive outgoing attitude and fostering a sense of teamwork and camaraderie amongst stakeholders.

Join us as the CMAA Mid-Atlantic Chapter welcomes Jeff Knueppel, P.E., in his new role as SEPTA General Manager.

SEPTA General Manager

Jeff was recently appointed to serve as SEPTA’s General Manager.  He is the 10th person to hold this role in the transit agency’s history.  His career thus far has included 27 years with SEPTA, in various roles, including Deputy General Manager, Chief Engineer, and Structural Engineer. He led both the Engineering, Maintenance, and Construction (EM&C) Division and the Operations Division. Jeff earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Civil Engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.


PROGRAM SUMMARY

On November 5, 2014, a Federal Register Notice (FRN) was published announcing the Federal Transit Administration’s selection of projects funded under the Resilience Projects in Response to Hurricane Sandy program.

In this FRN, SEPTA was selected to receive $86,758,000 in Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Public Transportation Emergency Relief Program for Resilience Projects in Response to Hurricane Sandy funding made available under the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act of 2013.  This application is for $66,329,500 (Federal share) and will fully fund the Railroad Signal Power Reinforcement, Railroad Embankment/Slop Stabilization, Ancillary Control Center and Subway Pump Room Emergency Power projects.  SEPTA will apply for the balance of funding in a future amendment to this application.

Come and learn about some of the most significant Capital Construction Programs in the State, as our Universities gear up to capitalize on the NJ Higher Education Funding Bill. Our presenters will outline their current and upcoming Capital Improvement Programs.  In total, these programs will spend over a Billion dollars on Design and Construction projects.  This is an event that Architects, Engineers, Construction Managers, IT Consultants, and Contractors will not want to miss!
